Macs are only for serious people

Macdailynews.com is reporting some awfully bad news for all fans of gaming on the Mac. They say that in a recent interview with one of Valve’s head honchos, he said that Apple as a company is very disorganized at handling gaming and don’t take it seriously. Valve is the company that makes Half Life 2 and CouterStrike, just to name a few. There is one thing I need to get across, however, that really bugs me. Some think that the Mac is a “serious” platform made for “serious” work – not silly stuff like gaming. Personally, I don’t care what platform I’m using – I just want to get my stuff done. That’s the whole premise behind OS X and the Mac – it lets you get your things done without getting in the way, does not require maintenance, and for the most part is a pleasure to use. For me, getting my stuff done includes gaming. If Apple is too disorganized to so blatantly ignore game developers and support them for the Mac, they aren’t getting my money vote. Now about, the “serious work” part. Ever see the funny Apple Mac ads? What is the Windows guy’s mainstay? He is really concentrated on work! For him it’s spreadsheets, documents, finance, etc. The Mac is portrayed to be “fun” and “hip”. Thus by thinking about the Mac as a “serious” platform for “serious” people, Mac users (who think this way) turn themselves into Windows guys with overpriced hardware (if you think Apple hardware isn’t overpriced, let me know and I’ll show you that it really is). It’s really an interesting school of thought. These people try to be cool and hip by using something with an Apple logo on it but they do the same exact stuff on their computers as Windows users do – only they can’t play (most) games!I’m sure that Apple will air out their personal laundry at the aforementioned Valve employee in a Press Release, saying they are committed to gaming, etc, etc. Won’t fly for me until we have some solid evidence to prove they are. (Emulated EA games count for half a point). In the end, I see Apple becoming a very big monopoly that will do more to harm users than Microsoft did before they learned to manage it and interact with different areas of their business(es). I also see Apple becoming the “uncool” kid in the playground. More on these last parts later.Wish me luck on the accounting exam today,Alex
