Chrome OS is just based on Linux and it is not really a “real” proprietary operating system from Google. i wonder if Google would also compete with MS Windows in the future.

i tried Chrome OS and it is pretty much like a scaled down version of Ubuntu. Chrome is just based on Linux and there is nothing new about it.

The fact that it’s Google behind it is what’s “new.” To me, that’s exciting for several reasons:
1) There is a new OS on the block
2) It’s free and will have a different revenue model behind it (like Android)
3) It’s Linux-based – like you said (like Android) which means that after years of hoping for market share gains, Linux may finally gain large market share on the desktop.
All in all, I think the integration with Google’s cloud services will be what’s most interesting here.
