    Bookends: The End Of The Ink and Paper Era

    Amazon’s seemingly unshakable stranglehold on the eBook industry may have just met its match. According to a B&N Press Release offered up yesterday, the “nation’s largest bookseller” has launched the Barnes and Noble eBookstore. The new book store will enable “customers to buy eBooks and read them on a wide range of platforms including barnes_and_noble_logothe iPhone and iPod touch (opens iTunes), BlackBerry smartphones, as well as most Windows and Mac computers. In addition, Barnes & Noble announced that it will be the exclusive eBook store on “the forthcoming and much anticipated Plastic Logic eReader device,” which will compete head-on with Amazon’d Kindle. Barnes and Noble will meet Amazon’s per book price of $9.99 as well as offer access to over 700,000 titles, “making it the world’s largest selection of eBooks available in one place.” B&N also revealed that it plans to expand that library to over 1 million titles.     One Million iPhone 3G S units sold. Jobs quoted in Press Release: the ins and outs

    steve_jobs_can_we_learn_something_from_this_pleaseIn a press release that is sure to surprise many, Apple released sales numbers for the first weekend of iPhone 3G S sales: 1 million units sold in a period of three days (Friday, Saturday, Sunday).  The surprise isn’t in the sales figures – it was widely expected that the updated iPhone would be a big hit – but rather with Steve Jobs being quoted in the actual press release.  This marks the first time Jobs’ name has officially come into the spotlight since the iconic CEO took a medical leave of absence in January of 2009.  But why would Apple quote Jobs in a press release if the CEO has not returned from his medical leave?  Hit the Read More button for the full TNR analysis.
